metal protectionCOBRATEC

FAQ:

It won't dissolve. Why?

Formulating with COBRATEC® can be a challenge because the product has relatively low solubility in both water and hydrocarbons. Three methods to increase the solubility in formulations are:

  1. Blend with a co-solvent
Effective co-solvents for water systems are alcohols and glycols. For hydrocarbon systems, tricresyl phosphate is a suggested solvent. See the chart below to view solubilities in various solvents.

  2. Change the pH
The solubility of COBRATEC® products increases above a pH of 8.0 and below 2.0. Raising the pH is particularly effective in alkaline based formulations. A solubility chart at various pH levels is shown below:

  3. Blended Products
80% CO99 combined with 20% COTT100 can yield a solubility of 2.5% in water which is higher than would be expected.
