FAQ:
It doesn't work. Why?
Whe customers have difficulty with COBRATEC® products, we ask them:
- What concentration is being used?
Depending on the particular industrial use, the
concentration of COBRATEC® will vary. Using
the improper concentration can lead to less than
desired protection. For a list of recommended use
concentrations, click on applications.
- Are you using COBRATEC® for copper protection?
The primary use of COBRATEC® is for
copper protection. However, protection of steel and aluminum are possible
using the new COBRATEC® 900 series
or combinations of COBRATEC® and
other corrosion inhibitors. For more information click on the multi-metal
protection.
- What else is in solution?
The use of other components in solution can have a
direct affect on the performance of COBRATEC®.
For example, problems can occur if there is a high
level of ammonia used in a cleaning solution or with
a metal based biocide in a metal working fluid. This
type of problem should be discussed with the
Technical Service Department.
- What temperature is the process?
This question is related to direct treatment
applications of copper. To receive the best
possible protection when treating copper strip,
decorative copper, copper wires of printed circuit
boards involves a balance of COBRATEC®
concentration, treatment temperature and time of
treatment. For further information contact the
Technical Service Department.
- How is the COBRATEC® being applied?
This is another question generally related to direct
treatment of copper. The application of
COBRATEC® by spray or tank dip can give
dramatically different results. Contact Technical Service
for more information.
- What is the pH?
The pH of a solution has a direct affect on the
corrosion of any metal. For example, the corrosion
rate of copper and copper alloys increases
significantly below a pH of 3.5. Metal protection in
an active pH region for an alloy may require
additional amounts of COBRATEC® to achieve the
desired results.
Every application and formulation with COBRATEC® is unique. The
experience of our Technical Service Department can help you solve your
problem.
